ReplyDelete“Exodus” – a contemporary fairy tale for adults. A discussion in relation to “Exodus”, the latest book by Greek writer George Hatzistergiou.
Dimitris Papanikolaou, Associate Professor of Modern Greek Studies, University of Oxford, and Antonio Guerreiro, Portuguese intellectual currently living in London, discuss with the author the harsh social, political and economic developments which unfold in Europe and follow through the book the struggle of individuals, groups or whole societies who strive to save themselves seeking a solid ground to stand and build upon. The actress Dimitra Kreps will recite texts from the book.
The novel Exodus of G. Hatzistergiou was published by Alexandria in November, 2011 and presented to the public in March, 2012 by Erifyli Maroniti, psychiatrist Grigoris Maniadakis and actress Eugenia Dimitropoulou at the National Research Foundation in Athens.
In London the event is in English and all extracts that I am going to read are from Tony Mozer's beautiful translation of the novel in English. In his ps the translator writes "I suspect that entrusting your work to someone else to translate is almost like giving up a
child for adoption. If that is the case, George was remarkably unperturbed about it as well as
untypically generous with deadlines and encouragingly happy with the end result. For all these I thank him." I too thank the author for choosing a female hacker to read his extracts
